The TOGAF certification program objective is to make certification available to individuals who have knowledge and understanding of the TOGAF 9 standard.
There are two levels to certification, denoted Level 1 and Level 2. Level 2 contains the learning requirements for Level 1.
Certification to Level 1 is known as TOGAF 9 Foundation.
To provide validation that the candidate has gained knowledge of the TOGAF terminology, structure, and basic concepts, and understands the core principles of Enterprise Architecture and the TOGAF standard.
Certification to Level 2 is known as TOGAF 9 Certified.
To provide validation that, in addition to knowledge and comprehension, the candidate can analyze and apply knowledge of the TOGAF standard.

The Open Group also provides a certification path direct to Level 2 (TOGAF 9 Combined Part 1 and Part 2) leads only to TOGAF Certified.
The Open Group also provides a credential for individuals who have previously achieved the TOGAF 9.1 Certified qualification. This is now known as the Open Group Credentials program.
